Trader Examination


The Trade Examination is open to traders who are employed by a SIX Swiss Exchange

  • participant or
  • a Reporting Member

and do not have a licence recognized by SIX Swiss Exchange.

Traders have to prove that they have a certain level of market knowledge before they are granted a licence. In passing the SIX Swiss Exchange Trader Examination, traders show that they have the knowledge they need to trade securities via SIX Swiss Exchange.

Why Requirement of the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA)
Exam structure The multiple-choice exam is taken online at the participant's premises.
The result is shown at the end of the exam.

The questions test the trader's knowledge as regards the content of the two modules "Rules and Regulations" and "Trading".

Pass mark: 70%
Duration / number of questions 2 hours / 100 questions
Cost CHF 550 per person

Payment is made by credit card when booking. Please note that we do not issue invoices.
Procedure The exam is conducted:
  • online at the Participant's premises under the supervision of the responsible Compliance Officer
  • for Reporting Members and others once a month at SIX Swiss Exchange
For traders of the Reporting Members the exams are voluntary.

Should a participant not be able to provide the necessary infrastructure, the exams can also be conducted in the premises of SIX Swiss Exchange under our supervision.

Target audience Traders who are employed by a SIX Swiss Exchange participant or a Reporting Member and do not have a licence recognized by SIX Swiss Exchange.

Preparation Either with a training course or independently using the preparatory documentation.

  • SIX Swiss Exchange Rules for the Appeals Board, ABR
Remarks We offer the trader training as preparation for the trader examination.

Traders' licences will expire if they remain unregistered after two years. The Trader Examination for Licensed Traders must be passed when re-registering.
