What is a General Clearing Member?
A General Clearing Member provides clearing for CCP-eligible securities of participants who
do not perform this activity themselves. Trades concluded on SIX Swiss Exchange are cleared via a
central counterparty (CCP). The clearing houses SIX x-clear and LCH.Clearnet both provide this service.
A General Clearing Member must also be a participant of a clearing house
(SIX x-clear or LCH Clearnet Ltd). It does not necessarily need a data link to the SWXess trading platform.
A General Clearing Member itself can, but does not have to be, a participant of SIX Swiss Exchange.
What is the procedure for becoming a General Clearing Member?
To become a General Clearing Member, an application and Clearing and Settlement Standing
Instructions (CSSI) form must be completed. The applicant submits the form and the
application to Member Services at SIX Swiss Exchange.
