Become a trading participant in 4 weeks' time

SIX Swiss Exchange is the reference market for Swiss securities. It brings together members, issuers and investors in an efficient and transparent securities marketplace. As an official exchange, SIX Swiss Exchange is subject to the Swiss Federal Act on Stock Exchanges and Securities Trading (SESTA) and is supervised by the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA).

Onboarding procedure

For new participants, we guarantee a simple and transparent "onboarding" procedure that under ideal circumstances is completed within the space of four weeks. We support you competently and reliably during the entire process.
The Onboarding factsheet provides a compact overview of the connectivity process and all relevant milestones. Fundamentally, the connectivity process can be broken down into two subsets that can be handled and completed in parallel: Business setup and Operational setup.

Business setup

The goal of the business setup is to obtain regulatory and legal approval of your institution as a SIX Swiss Exchange trading participant. The application form required for participation must be completed in full, legally signed and forwarded to SIX Swiss Exchange.

Prerequisites

One of the prerequisites for participation on SIX Swiss Exchange is the grant of a domestic or foreign securities dealer license from the FINMA. Swiss institutions can find all information of relevance at the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) website. For institutions that are not domiciled in Switzerland, appropriate forms are available for regulated and non-regulated companies.

Rules and directives

The manner in which efficient and transparent trading is organized on SIX Swiss Exchange is regulated in the Rule Book and Directives:

Operations setup

In terms of the operational setup, the focus is on establishing problem-free technological connectivity with the exchange, whereby SIX Swiss Exchange offers various connectivity options.

Connectivity

Trading participants can opt for either a direct link or connectivity via an Application Service Provider to the SIX Swiss Exchange SWXess trading platform. Trading participants concerned about latency time can also lodge their servers with a Proximity Service provider[pdf] against a monthly fee. Comprehensive documentation is available on connectivity to the SWXess trading platform (SCAP Connectivity Guide) as well as on the utilization of interfaces (STI, CTI, MDI and RDI).

Clearing and Settlement

Instructions, by means of the CSSI form[pdf], must be completed by the participant or a corresponding General Clearing Member (GCM) and forwarded to SIX Swiss Exchange.
