Price/yield and risk

  • Yield (if selected to calculate): The yield is the total income from a bond investment expressed as a percentage of the capital invested.
  • Price (if selected to calculate): The price is the cost of a bond at the yield specified as a percentage of the nominal amount.
  • Duration in years: The duration is the average period of capital commitment. The figure helps us to gauge the ways in which the price will respond to changes in general interest rates.
  • Modified duration: Approximate percentage change in the bond price if the market interest rate changes by 1%.
  • Remaining life in years: Time until the bond matures.
