Special Industry Index (SXI)® Family
On 21 June 2004, the SXI Family premiered two new indices that track one of Switzerland's leading sectors:
the SXI LIFE SCIENCES® index (pharmacy, medtech and biotech) and the more specific SXI Bio+Medtech® sub index.
These indices satisfy a growing demand on the part of foreign institutional investors to participate in this
segment of the Swiss equity market. They will also increase the attractiveness of the SIX Swiss Exchange as a stock exchange
for companies in these sectors. This index is a platform for companies and a benchmark for investors.
The SXI Family distinguishes sectors that are of particular significance to the Swiss economy. The chart
below shows the composition of the SPI® and SMI families, including the bases for the indices they contain.

pharmaceuticals as well as the more focused SXI Bio+Medtech sub-index.
SXI Bio+Medtech
The sector universe of the more focused SXI Bio+Medtech sub-index contains biotechnology,
advanced medical devices, medical supplies and healthcare providers.
