Structure of the equity market
The structure of the equity market of the SIX Swiss Exchange is as follows:
In terms of market capitalisation, the equity securities traded on the SWXess platform are predominantly
large, mid
and small caps, i.e. are issued by smal, medium or large-sized (or SMI® and SLI®) enterprises.
All securities are listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange. Most of
the international shares have secondary listings. Secondary listing means that the security is already listed
on another official stock exchange with equivalent listing provisions
(see regulatory provisions).
The index families of the SIX Swiss Exchange equity market (benchmarks) provide individual shares, as well as the
share indices of SIX Swiss Exchange, where the most of it are classified in family indices.
SIX Swiss Exchange - Sponsored Segment
On 1 July 2005, the SIX Swiss Exchange launched a new and attractive share trading segment - the
"SIX Swiss Exchange - Sponsored Segment". Swiss or foreign shares that have their primary listing on another
recognised securities exchange may be admitted to trading in this segment. The securities are introduced and
handled by a sponsor securities trader and SIX Swiss Exchange participant, but are not actually listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange. This has
a number of benefits for investors:

Major, well-known international blue chips are admitted to trading on the SIX Swiss Exchange

Shares in the SIX Swiss Exchange - Sponsored Segment can be traded just as easily as all SIX Swiss Exchange-listed securities

Foreign shares do not have to be ordered in a complex and time-consuming procedure via
their "home" exchange

The securities traders who introduce the shares undertake to set prices fairly and execute
orders swiftly
The trading currencies for this segment are the Swiss franc (CHF) and US dollar (USD). The segment
is subject without restriction to all of the usual SIX Swiss Exchange trading rules, specifically the General
Conditions and SIX Swiss Exchange Directives. This also means that trading in the SIX Swiss Exchange -
SIX Swiss Exchange - Sponsored Segment is monitored.
